With this P30 Pro, Huawei confirmed its leadership regarding camera phones. It is the photographic quality, in my opinion, the main motivation behind choosing this smartphone compared to the other top of the range, a choice that is further supported by the excellent autonomy and top notch performance.
When the price drops under $500, this P30 will become a true best-buy, able to take on devices such as the Xiaomi Mi 9 and OnePlus 6T, that bet everything on the value for money factor.
Samsung has, once again, set the bar for all smartphones. The Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus were solid devices, but Samsung updated and made some major improvements with the S10 and the S10 plus. The cameras are the same between the two models, and the new wide-angle lens is a pleasure to have and use. The displays are still the most cutting-edge in the industry. Battery life is better, especially on the S10 Plus. We also find the best Samsung software, that offers a solid performance.
The Galaxy S10 Plus is the perfect gadget by today’s standards. Elegant, powerful, versatile, complete and in some ways surprising. It is not without defects: it is bulky for someone with small hands and still lacks a dedicated night photo mode that further enhances low light photography. For the rest, it incorporates all the best features that smartphone technology has to offer.
The Huawei P20 Pro is a fantastic product. The first thing you will notice is its colors, a statement of courage, in a world dominated by rules always written by the usual suspects (Apple, Samsung). The second is the triple-sensor rear camera that shoots, under certain conditions, the best photos out there. And then there’s the Artificial Intelligence, which is more than a marketing gimmick.
The first OnePlus models were definitely cheaper, there is nothing to do about it, but even with the current prices, we can still consider OnePlus an “affordable” brand. I wanted to crown this 6T a “best buy”, but I can’t since it has the same price as the Galaxy S9+, LG G7, and P20 Pro. I still prefer the 6T, but whichever you choose it will still give you the best bang for your bucks!
