Huawei Watch 2 review

The first Huawei Watch was undoubtedly one of the most interesting smartwatches on the market. The second version (Check on Amazon.com) seems to take a diametrically opposite direction in terms of both design and style.

Package

Package

The box contains, in addition to the watch, a magnetic base for charging. It isn’t the most elegant way to charge the device, but it’s still secure and fast.

Build quality

Build quality

The Watch 2 is larger than the previous model, but at the same time, it has a smaller display. It is made of metal and this time around the bezel is quite generous and makes the Watch 2 look like a real watch. Sadly it also loses some of the aesthetic purity of the previous model.

The supplied plastic strap matches the design of the watch and is interchangeable. The Watch 2 has two physical buttons on the right side, so you can quickly launch a preferred app with just one click. It is dust and water-resistant according to the IP68 standard.

Hardware

Hardware

We have a Snapdragon Wear 2100 quad-core 1.1GHz processor, 4GB of internal memory and 768MB of RAM. We also have Bluetooth 4.1, NFC and Wi-Fi. There is also a 4G variant. On the rear, you can find the heartbeat sensor.

It also has GPS to make the most out of the apps dedicated to fitness. There is also a microphone for voice commands and a speaker so you can make phone calls directly on your wrist with your phone connected via Bluetooth.

Display

Display

The 1.2″ display is really beautiful. It has a resolution of 390 pixels in diameter. It is AMOLED and this allows it to be very bright and thanks to the automatic brightness function, it will adjust it according to the amount of light present in the environment.

Software

Software

The Huawei Watch 2 runs Android Wear 2.0. The whole system is very responsive and we love the ability to install apps directly on the watch. Huawei also added a couple of interesting functions. One of them is the watch mode, which shuts off every function, safe for the watch and the pedometer one, thus granting an increased autonomy of about 20 days.

Battery life

The 420mAh battery is probably the real hidden gem of this device. Turning the watch off during night time, this Huawei Watch 2 will last for two full days.

Price

Huawei Watch 2 costs (Check on Amazon.com): a good price considering the included hardware.

Final Verdict

The Huawei Watch 2 is definitely one of the best Android Wear smartwatches out there. It is a sports watch that focuses on the hardware (it comes with an integrated GPS and there is also a 4G variant) and increased autonomy of two full days. It’s not the best smartwatch out there, nor is it the most beautiful, but it is definitely one that you should consider buying.
