Huawei Watch GT review: the smartwatch you did not expect

Disclaimer: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

This Huawei Watch GT (Check on Amazon.com) takes a somewhat different path since it uses a proprietary operating system. Let’s find out if this sports watch can offer something more than the competition.

Package

Package

Inside the box, you will find the magnetic charging base (equipped with a USB-C port), the charging cable and the watch. A power adapter is not provided and you will need to use one already in your possession (or buy a new one).

Building quality

Building quality

The Huawei Watch GT, like most sports smartwatches on the market, has a typically masculine design. This is not bad in itself, but surely it is very aggressive and sporty forms will not do it any favors among the female audience. However, it is undoubtedly beautiful and thanks to its remarkable thinness, just 10.6mm, it is also one of the most comfortable smartwatches ever. The silicone strap is also comfortable. Moreover, it is also very light, weighing just 46 grams (without strap). It is made of metal with a ceramic front bezel. On the right side, we find two physical keys. The watch is also water-resistant up to 5 atmospheres, and thus suitable for swimming.

Hardware

Hardware

We have 128MB of internal memory and 16MB of RAM. It is of course equipped with Bluetooth, and there is also a barometer, accelerator, and gyro to measure every movement with maximum precision. Add to this the precise heart rate sensor and the GPS.

Display

Display

This smartwatch is equipped with a 1.39” AMOLED display with a resolution of 454 pixels in diameter (circular display). It is very bright and perfectly visible even under the sun. The resolution is higher than the average. The only flaw is the absence of an always-on mode. Fortunately, the display turns on with the twist of your wrist.

Software

Software

The Watch GT runs on a proprietary operating system built by Huawei. This means there are no apps or dials to install, but the advantage is its autonomy (more on that later).

The app for Android and iOS is very good and shows in every detail all the data collected by the smartwatch. Its main focus is the fitness aspect, showing you information about the steps you have taken, distance traveled, the amount and kind of sleep you had and of course your physical activity sessions.

Autonomy

The battery life of this Huawei Watch GT is amazing. Two (real) weeks of autonomy with a single charge, with sleep tracking turned on. Turning the GPS on will make you lose about 7% of battery life every hour, which is also a great result. In addition, recharging the device is really fast, it takes less than 2 hours to charge from 0 to 100%.

Price

The Huawei Watch GT is sold at (Check on Amazon.com), a price that is in line with the price of similar devices on the market.

Final verdict

Huawei Watch GT is a sport watch you do not expect. It offers great autonomy, a bright display and lots of fitness information that you can analyze directly from the watch. The notifications are a bit scarce but still punctual and legible.
