Despite the recent developments in mouse technology there still many who suffer wrist injuries and pain (carpal tunnel, repetitive stress injury) due to the intensive use of a mouse. This is why Logitech, the leader in PC peripherals, created the MX Vertical (Check on Amazon.com), the world’s first vertical ergonomic mouse designed to avoid stress injuries.

Logitech MX Vertical – Futuristic design

The first time you will lay eyes on this thing you will think: “what is this?”. The design of the Logitech MX Vertical is very striking; although, at the very core is a standard mouse that sits at a 57° angle.

On the right side, and in a vertical arrangement, we find the main buttons and the scroll wheel. The left side sports a curvature that gives it its futuristic look; here we also find the two thumb buttons. At the top, there is another button that modifies the so-called DPI or mouse’s sensitivity.

With its body angled at 57°, the Logitech MX Vertical can reduce pressure on the wrist; It also provides comfortable support for the thumb. In other words, conventional mice force wrist posture, resulting in injuries.

The MX Vertical is designed to be used with a much more natural posture for our wrist and muscles.

The other factor that can help mitigate injuries is the fact that this mouse uses by default a very high sensitivity which means that you will have to move the mouse way less for reaching the same spot on your desktop. Smart!

The “MX” part in this mouse’s name means that it is a premium device that’s all about quality and performance, like its other siblings [MX Master 3 (Check on Amazon.com), MX Anywhere 2S (Check on Amazon.com), MX Ergo (Check on Amazon.com)]. Obviously, it is not designed for gamers.

With Logitech Flow it is possible to use it with two computers at the same time, even if one runs Windows and the other MacOS. Flow also allows for seamless transfer of files from one PC to another using cut/copy and paste.

The Logitech Options software also lets you customize the buttons, configure specific application functions and adjust the cursor speed.

By pressing and holding down the DPI button, Options allows you to change mouse sensitivity on the fly by moving the cursor left (less sensitive, more precise) and right (more sensitive, faster movements). Choosing the level at which we feel most comfortable only takes a few seconds!

Use the dongle

The Logitech MX Vertical can connect to your computer in three ways: via the USB-C cable, the Logitech Unifying USB receiver, or via Bluetooth. The best one is the dongle: it consumes less battery and it has a higher polling rate than Bluetooth. On the other hand, the cable is annoying, and the Bluetooth consumes more battery and cursor movement is less smooth.

Logitech MX Vertical – Long autonomy

I have been using and testing the Logitech MX Vertical for a month now and the battery has not yet run out. Logitech ensures that it can reach up to four months with a full charge and that statement seems legit.

You can use the mouse while charging it using the USB-C port on the front and the included cable, but it also offers fast charging, granting you with 3 hours of autonomy with just one minute of charging!

Logitech MX Vertical – User experience

I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with this mouse. I am as productive as I was with my old mouse. The only difference is that now I can have my elbow on the desk, and my wrist in a more relaxed position and also rest my thumb.

My whole arm feels less tense, with the wrist resting in a more natural position. Considering all the time that I spend in front of a computer, it will surely end up making a difference in the long run.

Something I missed was the inclusion of a compartment for storing the USB connector. It’s very small, and it can get lost easily.

But the main dealbreaker with the Logitech MX Vertical is that it is only for right-handers. To top it off, the price of the mouse is also premium: it costs (Check on Amazon.com).

Logitech MX Vertical – Verdict

If you use a computer for several hours a day and feel that your hand and wrist are getting tired or experience pain, then the Logitech MX Vertical (Check on Amazon.com) is a great solution that can reduce “wear and tear” and prevent injury. Its ergonomic design may seem peculiar at first, but you will quickly get used to it.

On the other hand, users looking for a gaming mouse or a more all-encompassing device must stay clear of the MX Vertical since its format and button layout are not made for this kind of task.
