Build quality

Build quality

The Montblanc Summit 2 (Check on Amazon.com) is made of various materials and is available in DLC (diamond-like carbon), steel or titanium. The case is extremely compact and stops at 42mm, much more compact than the vast majority of smartwatches in circulation. The watch has a discreet design and is not too thick (14.3mm). On the right side, there are 3 physical buttons, two programmable and one inside the circular crown embellished with the classic Montblanc design. The rotating crown allows you to navigate through the menus. The straps are easily interchangeable. Of course, it is also dust and water-resistant according to the IP68 standard.

Hardware

Hardware

We often complain that the hardware evolution in the smartwatch market is somewhat stagnant. However, this Montblanc Summit 2 is the first smartwatch to mount the new Snapdragon Wear 3100, which features a new ultra-low-power co-processor, which is used to increase the autonomy of the device. The internal memory has doubled and now amounts to 8GB, and the same goes for the RAM which is now 1GB. There is also Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, barometer, NFC for mobile payments and GPS. A remarkable leap forward compared to the previous generation. At the rear, we also find a very accurate heart rate sensor.

Display

Display

This Summit 2 is equipped with a 1.2-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 390×390 pixels. The screen is very bright and is also equipped with a light sensor to ensure that it automatically adapts to ambient conditions. The new Wear OS ambient mode is also supported.

Software

Software

The Montblanc Summit 2 runs Wear OS 2.1. Notifications are now richer and are displayed more clearly. Montblanc has also preinstalled some proprietary apps. Among the most interesting are Timeshifter that helps you keep track of your travels and helps you plan your days to better fight jet lag, and Workout Coach, that plans your physical activity, always pushing you to do better and better. The app is incredibly well made, too bad there is no smartphone companion app and so everything is confined to the watch. Also, nice the app with all the time zones and the one that gives you tips and useful information about the country where you are. This is essentially a watch designed for the jet set.

The smoothness of the system is unparalleled, thanks to 1GB of RAM and the new Qualcomm processor.

Autonomy

The 340mAh battery guarantees about 1 and a half days of autonomy. Montblanc was successful at keeping the watch size to a minimum while maintaining a more than honest autonomy.

Price

It is very difficult for us to evaluate the price (Check on Amazon.com) of this product since those interested in buying it will do it for the brand and not for the technology. That is why the price isn’t shocking at all.

Final verdict

Montblanc Summit 2 is the best Wear OS smartwatch on the market. It is not for everyone and of course, those who will buy it won’t be purchasing the classic smartwatch. However, it is important to note that in this case, the price reflects the quality, the included hardware, and the performance.
