Like every Samsung product, this Galaxy Watch Active (Check on Amazon.com) has aroused a lot of interest. Let’s find out why.

Package

Package

Inside the package, we find the magnetic charging base, but no power adapter. There is a second rubber strap, allowing you to choose between the S and L sizes.

Build quality

Build quality

The Galaxy Watch Active is part of that line of smartwatches that do not shy away from looking exactly like a smartwatch. It is also a very discreet and compact product, as well as extremely light with its 25 grams of weight. You are going to forget having it on your wrist. It is made of aluminum and on the front, we have a nice slightly curved glass. Also beautiful is the included rubber strap that has the same clasp system of the Apple Watch. This way it will be particularly comfortable when working at a desk.

Hardware

Hardware

We have a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory that can be used for photos or music to listen offline. Connectivity is very good: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and also NFC for mobile payments. Finally, we have a microphone, but not a speaker, thus excluding you from the possibility of making phone calls on your wrist. On the back, we find a good heart rate sensor.

Display

Display

The Galaxy Watch Active has one of the smallest displays, but that can be a nice advantage. The 1.1 inches screen made it possible to create one of the smallest smartwatches in circulation. We have a resolution of 360×360 pixels (which is huge on such a small screen) and SuperAMOLED technology, which guarantees excellent levels of brightness. It also sports an always-on function, but it drains the battery quite fast.

Software

Software

This smartwatch runs Tizen OS version 4.0.0.3. It manages notifications (if connected to an Android smartwatch) very well and it lets you also to respond (in selected apps such as WhatsApp and Telegram) through preset messages (many!), emoji, dictation, and keyboard.

The most interesting apps are the weather, calendar, music player, alarm clocks and the new Samsung Health, with a redesigned summary page and all the data you will ever need. You can also start a physical activity session directly from the watch. Among those available are walking, running, cycling, hiking, swimming, treadmill, exercise bike, circuit training, weights, and many other exercises.

Also handy the possibility to connect Bluetooth earphones directly to the watch, especially when combined with the possibility to listen to your Spotify playlist offline, in case you are subscribed to the Premium version.

Autonomy

This Samsung Galaxy Watch Active comes with a battery of just 230mAh. It can guarantee almost 2 days of autonomy, keeping it on at night and with the always-on function turned off. It takes about 2 hours to completely recharge the device and we find very convenient the possibility of charging it wirelessly.

Price

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active is one of the cheapest Samsung smartwatch ever. It costs (Check on Amazon.com).

Final verdict

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active is not a revolution but it has a low asking price and its small size may attract an audience that was completely ignored until now.
